The Person

The Chief Operating Officer will bring the relevant knowledge and experience to operate effectively at an executive level in directing, developing and overseeing the ORR’ s corporate services functions.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the essential requirements set out below.

  • Board/Director level strategic and operational leadership gained within either the public, private and/or third sectors. This will include a proven and successful track record of leading complex change across one or more corporate functions such as  IT, Finance and HR.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of balancing strong strategic thinking skills with the determination to deliver operationally to get things done in a timely way.
  • Experience and/or appreciation of how working within a regulatory and/or public sector environment influences the design and delivery of corporate services.
  • A diversity champion – a clear advocate of diversity and the benefits it brings, promoting & encouraging initiatives and innovation.
  • An influencer, highly persuasive, with high emotional intelligence, able to rapidly gain the confidence and respect of senior stakeholders such as Executive Committee, Board colleagues, government officials and senior representatives from the professional bodies and other regulators.
  • An inspiring leader with excellent communication skills – a proven ability to operate at the highest level in an organisation within evolving and changing environments.
  • A team player – who is agile and flexible and committed to working with and through others to deliver organisational objectives and change. Experience of effectively managing diverse teams and encouraging cross-team working to ensure a holistic view is achieved.
  • Incisive and robust – is prepared to challenge convention and can take responsibility for difficult decisions on a wide range of issues and must be able to present and stand up for these.
