Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the role of Executive Director of Development – the most exciting development job in London.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the greatest Olympic and Paralympic legacy, and we are at a crucial point in driving the next stage of development which is creating a vibrant new part of the city in the heart of east London with talented and diverse communities front and centre.
I am delighted to have been appointed as the new chief executive to lead LLDC in delivering our world-class regeneration in this new era. There is so much still to do, and that is why there is no better time to come and join me as part of the new leadership team.
Thousands of homes have been built on the Park and in the surrounding area, two new business districts bringing thousands of job opportunities, and world-class sporting venues such as London Stadium and the London Aquatics Centre are open year-round with a full programme of events for elite athletes and amateurs alike. We are one of London’s top destinations, attracting millions of visitors from around the world each year, providing a valuable resource for local communities, and generating millions of pounds of economic benefit for the capital.
We are proud to have delivered the greatest Olympic and Paralympic legacy. We have regeneration projects and major event organisers from around the world coming to the Park to see how we have delivered a lasting legacy in partnership with local people.
Now, almost two decades on from London being awarded the Games, we are ready for the next chapter of our story. The Park will undergo significant change over the coming years as more homes are built through two significant joint venture development vehicles, and as East Bank, the UK’s most exciting and ambitious culture and education district in a generation, becomes fully operational. The reputation of the Park as a destination of global significance will be further cemented, bringing with it the potential to stimulate further public and private sector investment, drive innovation, and create yet more opportunity for the communities of east London.
Following the return of LLDC’s Town Planning powers at the end of 2024 to the neighbouring boroughs, LLDC will be a smaller organisation but no less dynamic and ambitious in its objectives. It will focus on driving growth and inward investment to east London; overseeing world class venues and the long-term estate and commercial management of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park; realising the continuing delivery of legacy and inclusive economy aims; and driving delivery of high standard residential developments.
As the new Executive Director of Development, you will lead the restructured development team into this exciting period. We are looking for an inspirational and focused Development Specialist with the intellect, commercial acumen and vision to drive exceptional results, lead our talented teams, make the most of our commercial potential, continue to meet our stringent financial commitments to deliver best value for London’s taxpayers, and work with our joint venture partners to continue to deliver the best possible benefits for local people, London and the UK.
The challenge of delivering the legacy, which other Olympic and Paralympic cities can only dream of, is a unique opportunity to make a crucial impact on London and be part of one of the UK’s greatest success stories.
We remain committed to better reflect the communities we serve in east London and are keen to hear from candidates who share this passion and whose work and lived experience reflects this.
We look forward to receiving your application.
Yours sincerely
Shazia Hussain
Chief Executive Officer
